History of The Phillips Group

Who We Are and What We Do

The Phillips Group is an independent wealth management firm located in Woodland Hills, CA. The Phillips Group was founded in 2009, by Larry M. Phillips.


Mr. Phillips has been a financial advisor since 1972. In addition he served as Branch Manager at several Wall Street institutions including Dean Witter and Prudential Securities from 1983-2000. During that time he trained, oversaw and guided the careers of several hundred financial advisors.


Mr. Phillips embraced his tenure among Wall Streets institutions for many years. However, as the financial services industry moved toward proprietary investment products and charging higher fees, Mr. Phillips knew his loyal client base deserved better. Opening The Phillips Group, an independently owned, SEC Registered Investment Advisor provided a superior alternative.

Meet Our Team

Larry M. Phillips – President

Since moving from Philadelphia, in 1972, Larry has been a financial advisor. In addition, he served as a Branch Manager from 1983-2000 for several major Wall Street firms. Larry has completed the Senior Securities program at the Steinberg Conference Center at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. He has been a guest speaker at many organizational and industry functions. Larry and his wife, Shelley, live in Westlake Village, CA. He is an avid golfer and enjoys spending time with their two children and five grandchildren.


Tracy Diestel – Senior Vice President

Tracy has worked in the Financial Services industry since 1978. She is licensed in all securities, insurance and annuity products. She partnered with Larry in 1992. Tracy has worked with her local church for such vital organizations as Habitat for Humanities, Westminster Free Clinic and the Thousand Oaks meal and overnight program. Tracy resides in Thousand Oaks, CA with her husband David, a L.A. Deputy Sheriff. They have three children, Jesse, Luke and Chloe.


Andy Davis – Vice President

Andy started with The Phillips Group in 2014 after previously working with a Chicago, IL based Investment Manager, Advisory Research Inc., a global value manager. His career began in 2005 with a Chicago, IL based alternative investment firm. Andy serves on the board of the Young Investors Society, a non-profit organization working to teach the fundamentals of investing to high school age children. He lives in Newbury Park, CA with his wife and three children.


Laurel Puana – Director of Operations

Laurel is responsible for servicing of all accounts and back office administration. She serves as the point of contact as it relates to non-investment activities. Laurel has been in the financial services industry since 1995. She and her husband Richard live in Reseda, CA. They have a son, daughter-in-law and two granddaughters.

Will The Phillips Group hold my accounts directly?

No. Client accounts are held by a third party custodian, Charles Schwab & Co. The Phillips Group is designated as the investment advisor and will make trades on your behalf.

Do I have to move my accounts to work with you?

You may need to change custodians. We have done extensive research on the market place and have found Charles Schwab & Co. offers the most comprehensive suite of services to meet the needs of our clients. We review the market place periodically to determine if other options are more appropriate.

How often will you review my portfolio?

We review portfolios no less than quarterly. Certain events may trigger more frequent internal reviews, including portfolio re-balancing, tax-loss harvesting and specific investment changes.

Will you work with our other professional contacts?

Working with your professional team is critical to your financial plan’s success.

What is the advantage of using The Phillips Group or independent advisor?
